School Visits

General information

I love to visit schools! To me, there’s nothing better than having the opportunity to share my enthusiasm and love for reading. My goal is to get kids excited about writing, and to empower and encourage even the most reluctant writer.

As a former school counselor (I am certified K-8), I am comfortable and accustomed to working with students, teachers, and staff. I can adjust the length and content of my presentations so that everyone in your school gets the chance to see me speak — and to ask plenty of questions!

I always send two of my books to schools in advance of my visit, so that students can have an idea of who I am and what I write when I walk through the door. You can keep the books for your school library, or to use however you choose.

Presentations

I offer presentations for schools and libraries, classroom and grade-level workshops, and presentations geared towards professionals. For a list of all the different presentations offered, click here.

Fees

$350 half day, $600 full day, anywhere in the greater St. Louis, MO area, or within 75 miles.

Bookings outside the greater St. Louis area are always for a full day ($600) plus expenses, due to travel time.

Evening events (literacy nights, PTA/PTO meetings, book fairs, etc.): $200 unless booked in conjunction with a full-day school visit, in which case the fee is $150.

Grade Levels

Since I write picture books, elementary students are my primary audience. However, many middle school and even high school Communication Arts teachers utilize picture books in their classrooms, particularly as a motivational tool for reluctant readers.

Home-schoolers

Fee based on day rate or per-student rate. Tell me what you're looking for and I'll do my best to accommodate your needs. I am flexible and willing to travel.

Writer-in-residence

I can spend anywhere from two days to a week at your school, giving mini lessons on various writing topics, working with students individually or in small groups, and facilitating critique groups. Contact me for more information and references.
