Counseling
I've been a writer for as long as I can remember. I've been a counselor for a shorter period of time. But apparently, I was destined to be both. A couple of years ago, I came across a career aptitude test I'd taken back in high school. I didn't know I'd saved it; nor could I recall the test results. I looked at the test report and was surprised to see that two careers were listed as being "ideal" for me: "Writer" and "Counselor." I couldn't agree more.
Call it chance, call it serendipity. Whatever led me to that career test taken more than three decades ago validated that I had ended up doing exactly what I was supposed to be doing. And that leads me to my approach to counseling.
Life's choices are seldom spelled out in black and white. But I believe that there are signs along the way that can guide you in positive directions, wherever you are in life's journey. My job as a therapist is to help you find your way around obstacles, dead ends, and unexpected curves — whatever issue that has you feeling "stuck."
Because no two clients are alike, I do not limit my therapeutic toolbox to one theory or technique. I am what is often referred to an "eclectic" therapist. In other words, I use whatever works best for a particular client.
I offer individual, couples, and family therapy, as well as short-term group counseling focusing on a specific topic such as divorce support for women, pet loss, anger management, and journal therapy. I have a master's degree in professional counseling, am a certified K-8 school counselor, and an active member of the American Counseling Association.
